It's hard to believe that another year is drawing to a close and this is our 12th issue of J.D.'s Digest. We have tried to make this enewsletter easy to read, informative and at times, entertaining. How did we do? We'd like to hear from you. Please send your comments to jdsandersrv@gmail.
This year the News Desk brought us RV related stories from around the world. We learned that RVing is just as popular in Great Brittain, New Zealand and Australia as it is here and that Aistream trailers can live forever are not just for camping. We learned that if you ever visit South Africa you can stay on the roof of a hotel in an Airstream!
Every month Mark Maness, Service Manager, has offered solutions to common RV problems via the Service Desk. He has even shared maintainance tips that could keep your rig away from our service bays. Hmmmmm, . . . I'll have to talk with Mark about that.
My Brother David, Parts Manager, has kept you informed about new and useful items in the store via the Parts Desk section of the Digest. David and our brother Hal keep over 8,000 parts on hand - some of them are obscure, hard to find parts for older RVs.
That reminds me, you can find just about any RV part or accessory in our online catalog. But, here's a tip: before ordering from the catalog, call the store at (386) 462-3039 or (800) 541-6439 and ask Hal or David if we stock or can order what you need for in-store pickup. Did you know that we ship parts from the store every week to customers?
The Sales Desk with Wayne Borecki, our Sales Manager keeps you informed of new RV's coming in from the factories, trade-ins arriving for resale and special pricing on selected units.
Finally, there's the Event Calendar. Here you'll find holidays, area festivals and RV rallies. Do you belong to a camping club? Send us your rally schedule and we'll post it on the calendar along with the contact information you provide.
For all of us at J.D. Sanders RV Center, I want to wish you a happy and safe holiday season. If you're in the neighborhood, please stop in and say hello. |

RV SERVICE TIPS AND ADVICE |
|
Recently, I've been fielding calls from customers about excessive moisture inside their coaches, especially when they have cranked up the furnace in cold weather.
Moisture is defined by Dictionary.com as "Diffuse wetness that can be felt as vapor in the atmosphere or condensed liquid on the surfaces of objects; dampness." That pretty much describes the atmosphere here in Florida all year.
When you store your RV without a shore power connection (and therefore no air conditioning) the water vapor in the air will seep into your rig and find its way into every nook and cranny. Over time excessive moisture may accumulate in your couch, bed, chairs even cabinetry.
When you take your rig out of storage this time of year, arrive at your destination and crank up the furnace on a cold night, the moisture will be drawn out of it's hiding places by the heat (especially if you crank the thermostat up to higher temperatures). The moisture rises toward the cool ceiling, walls and windows where it condenses back into water droplets.
Storing your RV with electrical service and the air conditioner set to operate at moderate temperatures will eliminate most of the excess moisture. But, many of you can't do that. Besides, during the warmth of a camping afternoon you may like to keep the windows and door open.
Try running the air conditioner for an hour or so during the warmest part of the day. That should help.
Otherwise, I see only three possible solutions: (1) buy and use a dehumidifier like the Eva-Dry Petite Dehumidifier featured in the October isse of JD's Digest ; (2) buy and use large quantities of DampRid ; or (3) carry a stack of towels on your trip to wipe down the windows and walls.
